Goals for PupScouts Academy Graduates

Human and dog have to be on the same page in order to have the very best life together. We do the hard work for you, setting a strong foundation, teaching your dog the most important skills, expectations, and commands to improve the quality of your lives. Wild Pup Adventure’s goal is to ensure that your dog has the skills to accompany you on life’s adventures together. We inform you throughout the process about what role you’ll need to play for continued success and how to use the training methods that work best for your dog.

Our curriculum covers both basic and advanced topics so your dog can travel with you, enjoy off-leash freedom in appropriate settings, safely participate in sports activities, and respond to a wide variety of essential commands. Of course, pet parent’s need to learn and reinforce the skills as well, and continue to practice them together. WPA also supports the learning process for pet parents who commit to the Intensive.

Learner-Centered Dog Training™

A philosophical thread weaves its way through every single Wild Pup Service. That is: relating to every single dog as an individual. This means, each dog, just as each person, will have learning needs unique to them. How does Toby know what a dog needs? She observes them very closely as they relate to their environment, other beings, situations, and interactions. Toby watches the micro-movements of their bodies, which indicate their feelings and thoughts. As she gets to know each dog, it becomes apparent to her what type of approach may work best for the dog. It’s Toby’s goal to help each dog become the best version of themselves possible. The intensive program allows for a deep relationship between teacher and student, although the roles do switch at times, since Toby is always eager to gain wisdom from the dogs, and for them to help her become the best version of herself too. Learner-Centered Dog Training is flexible, dynamic, and realistic.

How We Lead

Toby and Raven’s compatibility, teamwork and leadership guide PupScouts on their learning journey. As the WPA Pack Leader for 8 years, Raven is the canine Elder who has taught life skills to hundreds of dogs. PupScouts learn to respect and pay attention to her right away, or else. She comes on strong, when needed, and by watching her intelligence over the years, Toby has come to see Raven as her own teacher. Toby expresses expectations with clarity and following daily and circumstantial rhythms, which all members of the pack quickly become familiar with. In each moment, PupScouts receive the feedback that leads to discovering their highest potential. Alone in the forest, surrounded by dog packs for many years, Toby models her training methods from within canine culture.

  • "Scout and Ranger are amazing and reliable off leash, they listen very well to the commands you have taught us to use such as this way, stop, etc. They are very agile and seem to be very aware of their capabilities in challenging terrain, they are very strong swimmers from adventures on lakes, they have become brave and also respectful of other humans and dogs they encounter when they are off leash."
